When it comes to Summer, there’s nothing like sitting outside and taking in the sun while sipping on something fabulous. With the heat getting the best of us here in Texas, I’ve been craving one of my favorite frozen cocktails, a Batida! In Portuguese, batida (ba-tee-da) means shaken or milkshake which is the perfect way to describe this exotic, Brazilian frozen concoction. Not only can be made multiple ways, but it’s super easy to create and will definitely dazzle your taste buds.
I’ve partnered with Cost Plus World Market to bring you a special version of this Brazil favorite. It combines coconut milk with passion fruit syrup to create a subtly sweet and beach worthy cocktail that’s perfect for any outdoor get together.
Traditionally a Batida is made with cachaça which is a Brazilian white rum made from sugar cane. Since this isn’t easily found in the United States, we are substituting regular white rum instead. Now, having kids means I normally create two versions of every drink so it’s great that this cocktail is easily made with and without alcohol.
Shopping for Brazilian Recipes and Brazilian Foods is easy with your local Cost Plus World Market. I was able to find everything I needed (save for the sweetened condensed milk which was already in my pantry) to create my Coconut and Passion Fruit Batida at my local store!
One major reason why this cocktail is one of my favorites is the fact that it’s done in seconds! You just measure out the ingredients, drop them into your blender and blend away until it’s smooth. Once done, you’ll have a beautifully creamy and fruity cocktail that will leave you feeling as if you’re on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro!

This can also be made without the rum for a great virgin-style cocktail as well!

That’s one delicious way to cool off!
This sounds so great and refreshing! We are experiencing a heat wave and I’m about to have a baby in a week, so I could go for this in a couple weeks!
One interesting thing is that the word batida also means a crash, and is the usual term to refer to a car crash. The drink can be quite amazing, but due to its alcoholic content must be ingested cautiously. It could make you crash on a bench or something worse. The word can also refer to a musical beat and the drink may get you shaking to its delicious tropical feel, too. рџ‰ Denise Browning is the Brazilian Culinary Expert for 196 flavors.
