I received an all expenses paid trip to from Disney to Los Angeles, CA to attend the Disney’s Planes Red Carpet Premiere and an event for The Little Mermaid diamond edition DVD release. All opinions expressed are my own.
August 5th, 2013 will be a day that I remember for the rest of my life. That’s the day, Mickey Mouse stretched out his hand and gave me the chance to leave my normal life behind and experience what it’s like to live as if I were a movie star! Disney’s Planes red carpet premier in Los Angeles at the El Capitan Theater was the closest I have and may ever come to touching the stars. The amount of cameras flashing, the redness of the carpet, the glamour of the entire event was enough to leave me spell bound, star struck and beyond grateful that I was able to see what life is like on the other side of the screen.
Walking the red carpet
The premier was took place at the El Capitan Theater, just about a block up from the Roosevelt Hotel where we were staying. As we walked towards the theater, the roads were blocked off and metal garter gates kept the public at bay as they attempted to catch a glimpse of a star. After passing through the barricades, we were hustled down to where the red carpet, I mean runway was. There were security guards everywhere and paparazzi flashing their cameras like crazy! It was insane to see how nuts they went when Teri Hatcher and her daughter walked out onto the carpet. They were yelling things like “TO THE RIGHT TERI” and “OVER HERE” just to get the best shot. It was amazing to be walking down the carpet and to see someone so famous standing RIGHT next to us!!
The red carpet moment itself didn’t last very long but it was incredibly memorable. Jesica from The Mommy Bunch and I were red carpet buddies. As we strutted down to the pre-party at the end of the carpet, we snapped photos of each other and gawked at how stunning the theater was from the outside! Once we got toward the end of the carpet, there were amazing street performers dressed as giant balloon planes and jugglers on stilts!
Touching down at the pre-party
Once we hit the end of the red carpet, it dropped us off at The Target Landing Zone pre-party!
The party was set up like a giant carnival with games such as a Bullseye Flight School simulator, Skee Ball, Balloon Darts, Catch A Flying Fish, the Crane Game and more! What made the games even more fun, was that they were all giving out awesome Planes merchandise for prizes, and someone won every time! I couldn’t believe the amount of cool Planes gear I walked away with for my kiddos. There were even fun food vendors giving out things like Cotton Candy Clouds, Burger Sliders, Jamba Juice Smoothies and other goodies.
The pre-party was packed with stars and VIP’s of the film and their families. It was really cute to see stars such as Kendra Wilkinson, Jason Priestley and Teri Hatcher out with their kids and having such a blast. It made me wish I could have shared the moment with my kiddos as well, but I know even though they weren’t there, they would be STOKED when I arrived home with Disney’s Planes goodies!
Making the rounds at the pre-party games and food stands brought back fond memories of visiting carnivals with my family as a kid. It was nice that adults were welcomed to play the games as much as the kids were. Everyone seemed to have a great time and I loved getting to see all the new Planes merchandise. Target even had a massive display of all the new Planes items available at their retail stores nationwide! I think my favorite item was the Planes bicycle, it had a propeller on the front and everything!
One of the most memorable moments of the pre-party, was being able to mingle with movie stars! I did my fair share of rubbing elbows with the rich and famous and even got lucky enough to score some pictures with them! Check out who I caught walking around at The Target Landing Zone!
It’s movie time
Once the pre-party was over, it was time to head on into the theater for some high-flying fun!! We checked our cameras at the door (no pictures or recording equipment allowed inside) and went to find our seats. The theater inside was absolutely stunning! The 1920’s look and flair was still just as present as it must have been back in the theater’s heyday. There was even a giant old 1920’s organ that rose out of the floor to serenade us with Disney tunes as we waited for the film to start.
I can’t begin to describe how incredible the entire red carpet experience was. To step into the shoes of a movie star and see things from their perspective was amazing. I still can’t believe it was real when I think about it. Meeting Teri Hatcher and Dane Cook was a high like no other and I’ll never forget it! One thing I’ll always remember was how sore my face was after everything from smiling so much! 🙂
I’m hoping my photos and stories have put my experience at-least a little bit into perspective for you, but as I said before, there aren’t enough words in the dictionary to describe how wonderful it was. I can’t wait to read how my other 24 blogger buddies who were there with me perceived this experience!
Curious about how the movie was?! Well that’s a whole other story coming soon!! I’ll tell you this though, you WON’T be disappointed! 🙂
Take a peek at this clip from the film!
