I received an all expenses paid trip to from Disney to Los Angeles, CA to attend the Disney’s Planes Red Carpet Premiere and an event for The Little Mermaid diamond edition DVD release. All opinions expressed are my own.
The wait is over and today’s the day Disney’s Planes flies into theaters everywhere! If your family enjoys movies that can bring everyone together and allows their imaginations touch the sky, than you’ll love Disney’s Planes! I was given the AMAZING opportunity to attend the Red Carpet Premiere of the film in LA a few days ago, and let me say, I was blown away!
Disney’s latest high flying adventure lets us touch the sky! We’ll get to see what goes on above the world of Cars and find out how those who kiss the sky achieve their dreams. The film introduces us to Dusty Crophopper, a small-town crop dusting plane who dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer in the Wings Around The World Race. Just two things stand in his way; 1) he’s not built for racing and 2) he’s afraid of heights! Planes follows Dusty as he takes on his fears, soars to new heights and challenges himself to become the best high-flying racer in the skies!
Dip, Rip & Roll!
My family and I are big fans of Disney’s Cars so as I walked into the El Capitan Theater for the premiere, I was wondering if Disney could top such a fun and successful movie. As soon as the lights went down and film started I found out how!
The film opens with leading plane, Dusty Crophopper soaring through the sky with two Navy fighter jets, Bravo and Echo! The audience gets to fly along as they dip, rip and roll through the skies only to find out that Dusty is daydreaming about being more than a crop dusting plane. From that moment on I was on the edge of my seat the rest of the film!
The animation is beautifully done to the Disney standard and the 3D element of the film gave the it an amount of depth that felt as if you were really there! I was happy to see that the 3D wasn’t “annoying” 3D. There weren’t a large amount of cheap 3D tricks with things thrown out at you, my head didn’t hurt from the glasses at the end of the film and all around it really gave the movie a special element that made the characters seem more real. Disney did a great job with using the 3D to create depth and really make the scenery of the movie POP! My favorite elements of the movie were the wing shots that let you feel like you were REALLY flying with the planes!
Take a peek at the film!
Being a Navy family, I really got a kick out of the two Navy jets, Bravo & Echo, especially with them being voiced by their Top Gun counterparts. Watching the scenes with them and the massive aircraft carrier made me smile since I know that my husband will feel tickled seeing one of the car characters guiding planes into position, which is what he did while he was deployed on a ship. It made me all the more excited to take my family to the movie once I got home!
In my opinion, Planes is the perfect family movie adventure. I felt captivated through out the entire film and Disney did a great job with combining tasteful adult humor with child friendly themes making the movie fun for both the young and old. Not to mention with a cast including the talents of Dane Cook, Teri Hatcher, Val Kilmer, Anthony Edwards, Stacy Keach, Roger Craig, Cedric The Entertainer and more, you can’t go wrong!
To see or not to see
As I mentioned before, I was skeptical about whether or not Disney could top Cars, especially with the love my kiddos have for that movie, it would be hard to beat. Well after experiencing all Planes has to offer, I came away feeling as if I’d just flown along for the ride! I enjoyed Planes even MORE than I enjoyed Cars! The characters were great, my favorite being El Chupacabra with Dottie coming in a close second. The entire movie was fun to watch and I can’t WAIT to take my kids to see it as their first movie!! Planes will hold a special place in all of our hearts and I’m sure your family will enjoy it as much as I did!
