Christmas has always held a special place in my heart when it comes to holidays. Of course as a kid it’s all about the presents but as I got older and my childhood family outgrew my parent’s home, it became all about getting together to see each other and spending time together. Now that I have my own kids and get the chance to play gift-giver, there’s nothing more I enjoy then seeing their glittering faces on Christmas morning. It reminds me of the anticipation of waking up to see our stockings full and gifts under the tree all while never wanting to fall asleep in hopes my brother’s and I would catch a glimpse of Santa!
Out of all the Christmas’s I had as a child, one in particular stands out when it comes to Christmas wishes coming true. When I was in elementary school I remember seeing a commercial for a doll called Sally Secrets. This doll could produce stickers out of pretty much everywhere and had all kinds of fun, secret compartments for you to stash things. Once that commercial had played in front of my bright, little girl eyes I was utterly hooked and having that doll was all I could think of.
Thanksgiving came and went and soon it was Christmas time. Every year on St. Nick’s night ( Dec 6th) we had a special elf from Santa’s workshop that came to stay with till he went back to the North Pole with Santa on Christmas Eve Night. When we would write our letters to Santa soon after our elf arrived, we were allowed to ask for 3 things. That year however, all my list consisted of was a Sally Secrets!
Finally Christmas day came! My 3 brothers and I all made sure to wake each other up SUPER early and snuck downstairs to see if Santa had come. Of course after seeing he had, we would bombard my parents to wake up but every year we had to sit tortuously in our rooms till 9am came and my parents were actually awake. When it was time to open presents, we all ripped through everything we were handed. I was getting some wonderful things, but the one toy I was hoping for hadn’t been in any of the boxes. I had started to give up hope when one of my brothers found the last of the presents hiding behind the tree. He handed it to me and as I tore it open I saw that Santa hadn’t forgotten! Inside was the Sally Secrets Doll I had been wishing for.
I LOVED that doll for years. She came everywhere with me and even after her stickers were gone and her stamps didn’t work, the doll always held a special place in my heart. That Christmas really made me feel like Santa was more then a legend; he could make anyone’s Christmas wishes come true!
Now that the holiday season is once again upon us, we are all looking to fulfill someone’s Christmas wish. Where better to do that then at Walmart’s Toyland! Now through December you and your family can experience fun Toyland events at your local Walmart stores and experience the toys that were chosen by kids as top players this season. I’ll be attending an in store event on Nov 18th and I encourage you to find one near you as well!

Such a great memory. It is interesting how things changes as we grow older but those amazing memories from childhood remain. I too had a favorite doll that I received from Santa, her name was Sarah. I still have her today but she is not in good shape. I will cherish her and the memories, like you, for years to come. Thank you for sharing your story!
