Being a mom and a blogger, my kids are always exposed to online content. Weather it’s through my site, or playing with their own tablets, the internet presence in our home is very strong. Since my kids are still really young, I’ve tried to censor the content they interact with as much as possible. However I know as they get older and become more involved in their online lives that even more obstacles will come to light. With schools using online resources even more and issues like cyber bullying and content privacy on the rise, I can’t help but worry about if my kids are prepared to handle these situations.
Thankfully AVG Technologies has teamed up with Childnet International to publish an interactive e-book series, Magda and Mo, to help parents and children navigate tricky Internet safety topics such as cyber bullying and safe searching. Magda and Mo are featured in 3 free e-books geared towards kids ages 3 and up and help teach kids the importance of internet safety and how to make the right choices when faced with tricky situations online. The books even have suggestions for parents after each story about how to talk to their kids about safe online habits.
With kids these days being so involved online, especially the teen community, it’s imperative that as parents we inform out kids about the importance of online safety. Through a study performed by AVG Technologies, only 29% of teens could claim to know all of the people they are friends with on social media. By the age of 16 almost one in three teenagers already regret posting something online. As a parent, I want to keep my child’s online regrets to an absolute minimum and that requires me to become educated about online awareness so that I can teach it to them.

Protecting your social accounts with AVG PrivacyFix
Along with helping kids to live safer lives online, AVG Technologies has also developed an app that allows you to deadlock your privacy settings for your social accounts and make sure others are seeing ONLY what you want them to. AVG PrivacyFix is available for both mobile devices and computers.
I’ve been using the app for a few weeks now and love how it allows me to create different privacy settings for each of my social accounts. Plus it will send me an alert when privacy policies change. The app is easy to navigate and very user friendly. Needless to say I feel much safer sharing photos of my kids knowing that I’ve locked in my privacy settings with AVG PrivacyFix!

This is neat. I have 3 teens so it is hard to keep an eye all the time. I will look into getting this.

As the kids get older and are starting to use the Internet, I worry about what and who they will encounter. I have talked to them about the Internet and the dangers. I’m really interested in this privacy app.

This is a great app to have! My 4 year old granddaughter is on the computer a lot at learning pages and she knows which things to click on to get where she wants to go but one never knows where she might click on something by accident…

The internet is a scary place for children. You have to teach them the safety of the internet. Not to give out personal information especially.
