Heading to the seaside is one of my favorite places to vacation. Daytona Beach, FL offers beautiful weather, warm water, sugary sandy beaches and a small town eclectic feel that makes you want to stay forever! With so many different hotels and resorts running up and down the beach, it’s hard to find one that compares to the luxury offerings catered towards families at The Shores Resort & Spa.
Located on The Shores Barrier Island in Daytona Beach and nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and Intercoastal Waterway, The Shores Resort & Spa offers the only AAA Four-Diamond luxury beachfront experience in the area. Its convenient location offers an area of pristine, uncrowded beaches, family-friendly local activities and easy access to the airport.
This family-oriented resort offers amenities such as an oceanside sundeck with outdoor swimming pools, Jacuzzi, beachfront cabanas, Tiki Bar, and beachside fire cauldrons with family seating. Take in a meal at their in-house ocean-front restaurant, Azure or relax with a massage at Indulge, their extravagant spa oasis. Once you’ve explored for the day, create beachside family memories by taking in a sunset and roasting some of the resort’s exclusive S’mores kits offered to every guest!
The rooms
Our family recently visited The Shores Resort & Spa and we couldn’t have been happier with our stay. Being a family of 5, it isn’t always easy to fit into one hotel room comfortably, however, I was super excited to see that our Deluxe Oceanfront Cabana Room was more than spacious! The room was set up nicely and the kids enjoyed being greeted by elegantly folded swan towels.
The room featured two queen sized feather beds, a 42” flat screen TV, an oversized sleeper chair, large bathroom, mini fridge, and my favorite part, a private attached enclosed cabana with outdoor seating, ceiling fans and another flat screen TV!
Our room was located on the ground floor which was great being with kids and the private cabana gave us close access to the pool and ocean terrace. As a parent to a toddler, it was great to see that the room offered an immense amount of space giving us an ample spot to place our portable crib.
I couldn’t have been happier with our room! Its location on the ground floor was so convenient and accessible, not to mention having pool and beach access through our private cabana made moving around with the family easier. The shades on the cabana could be closed for extra privacy so we could let the bigger kids sit outside, relax and watch a bit of TV while my toddler napped inside the room.
The only downside I could find to our room was that there was no way to lock the door leading out to the cabana, so if we wanted to go out that direction to the pool or the beach, we would be leaving our patio door unlocked and our room vulnerable to anyone who wanted to open the door. It would be much more reassuring and convenient if those doors were able to be locked with the room key.
Dining at Azure
While staying at The Shores Resort & Spa we experienced a dinner and a breakfast at their in-house oceanfront restaurant, Azure. Offering ocean-inspired cuisine and Sunday beachside brunch, Azure is the only fine-dining oceanfront restaurant in Daytona Beach Shores. Guests of the resort can enjoy food from the restaurant at the pool, by the ocean, in their room, and in their private beach cabanas.
Azure offers an extensive and tantalizing dinner menu featuring meal options as well as A La Carte choices and a children’s menu. For appetizers, we received some of their house made bread and a homemade pretzel the size of my toddler! My kids enjoyed cheese pizza, seasonal fruit, chicken tenders and fries. Seeing as how everything was gobbled up I would say they enjoyed it!
I ordered the Salmon & Lobster which featured lock duart salmon, a whole lobster claw, julienne vegetables, jasmine rice and a champagne-dill sauce. It was amazing! If I could eat lobster every day I would happily be drowning in it, even though I can never seem to crack their shells right. Thankfully, our waitress was more than happy to help.
Our food and our waitress were phenomenal! Unfortunately, our dinner at Azure experienced a hiccup when it took an uncomfortably long time for our food to get to us. We arrived at 7pm and didn’t end up leaving till almost 10pm. This was hard to understand since the dining area didn’t seem busy. Having three kids all under 8-years-old, this wasn’t an ideal time schedule for us. Since every restaurant has its off days, we decided to try again in the morning for breakfast.
In the morning we headed back to Azure. Needless to say, our breakfast experience was perfect and seemed to go off without a hitch. We enjoyed tasty fares such as chocolate chip pancakes, oatmeal and seasonal fruit, house-made biscuits, and a pecan Belgium waffle that was to die for!
My kids were particularly fond of the custom smoothies offered. The food came out quickly, hot and everything tasted wonderful. We even ended up with a few extra pancakes which made for an easy afternoon snack.
S’mores at The Shores
When it comes to the highlight of our vacation, I would have to say roasting S’mores every night of our stay was one of them! I loved that it was such a family-friendly activity and one that not only brought us together but had us creating something.
The resort offers different areas for guests to roast their S’mores and provides a S’mores kit complete with roasting sticks, marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate bars for making four S’mores per kit.
It was such a fun and tasty experience for all of us! The only thing missing from the kit was a few wet wipes for how sticky our hands were.
A great stay!
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at The Shores Resort & Spa in Daytona Beach, FL! The resort and its staff were all wonderful and very understanding of the needs of families. The proximity to the beach was outstanding. We loved being able to walk out of our room and be right on the water and next to the pool. Visiting in mid-June, we had very little to almost no crowds on the beach which was great and the weather was gorgeous.
If you’re looking to visit Daytona Beach, FL, The Shores Resort & Spa offers a luxury beach experience with a family-centric vibe and affordability in mind. We truly had enjoyed our stay and I would certainly recommend this resort to others. With the area’s beach-worthy weather year round, visiting The Shores Resort & Spa fits into any schedule!

I just had the best spa experience in Naples, Florida. I have chronic back pain due to an accident and they were able to relieve my pain. They have wonderful customer service. My husband who was also with me enjoyed his massage too. If you’re in Naples, you should totally visit Divine Spa.
