Halloween is my all-time favorite holiday! Besides it being my birthday, I’ve always loved decorating for this spooktastic holiday since I was a kid. There was just something about setting out the pumpkins, taping up the jointed witch poster and hanging the Happy Halloween banner on our door that really made it feel like Fall.
This year, I decided to channel those childhood memories and create a vintage Halloween inspired look for my living room mantel and I absolutely love it! Featuring burlap pumpkins, eerily smiling figurines, black cats, melty candles and twisting twig trees, this vintage Halloween mantel refresh is sure to take any seasoned Trick or Treater down memory lane. What’s even better, there’s nothing I used that cost me more than $25! See how to create this fun look in 3 easy steps.
1) Choose a theme
If you’re anything like me, you can get a little carried away when you’re excited. I’ll admit, I’ve gone decor shopping with no strategy and ended up with lots of great items that look ridiculous together. You don’t want that!
When creating your Halloween mantel-piece, choosing a theme is imperative to keep a uniform look. Not only will a theme make things look more organized, it will allow you to purchase items that look and style well together.
I had such a blast shopping for Halloween items at my local At Home Store. Their massive selection of specialty Halloween products made it easy for me to find the coordinating decor I needed.
2) Set a budget and pick your decor
Now that you have your theme it’s time to set a budget and choose your decor. This is a big one for me since I can easily get carried away shopping for holiday decorations. I set my budget for under $175 and headed to my local At Home store to shop.
To keep my Vintage Halloween inspiration, I looked for classic Halloween icons such as Jack-O-Lanterns, spider webs, black cats, witches, skulls and spooky candles. I love the rustic and handmade feel burlap gives so I was excited to find the burlap Trick Or Treat banner and stuffed pumpkins.
The best part about this vintage Halloween look is that everything I purchased was either $25 or less! Yes, even those big spooky twisty trees were only $25 each. I just love that At Home’s every day low prices always let you decorate on a budget.
3) Create your Vintage Halloween mantel
Now that you have your theme, you set your budget and you picked out your decor, it’s decorating time! This is where you get to see your vision come to life. Let those creative juices flow and start placing your decor.
Decide what you want the focal point to be. Keep in mind height and color of your items, this will help to keep your mantel looking even and uniform. Remember to step back a few times and take a look at how your creation is turning out so you can get a perspective on what your guests will see.
Once done, pour yourself some apple cider and let the warmth of vintage Halloween childhood memories welcome in Fall! CHEERS!
Be sure to shop your local At Home Store for specialty home and holiday decor for any budget.
Do you decorate your mantel for Halloween? I’d love to see it!
