For those that don’t know, I love a good book. For me, there’s nothing like the smell of a book and the want to find out what’s going to happen to the characters 3 chapters from where I’m at. It’s even more exciting when I get into a series and I can look forward to reading all the books as they climax into one another. With The Hunger Games series of books, it’s been a wonderful journey to read each one and a few weeks ago I had the chance to read the last of the series, Mockingjay and host a book club a few of my other book lovers!
With the move, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 coming to theaters November 21st, reading the novel was the perfect pre-game to heading to theaters in a few days. Of course, the book is always better then the movie but it’s fun to read the book and then watch the movie to see what they change or leave out. The book club I was able to compile consisted of a few good friends and their hubbies. From a series perspective, I loved all the books. They really make you think about how we perceive each other as human beings and are a great read for adults young and old. I felt Mockingjay really touched on how sometimes it’s a constant battle to understand what it is we must become in life and what our destinies are when it may not be the path we would have chosen and how sometimes it’s not the easiest choice to make.
We all had a great time reading the book together and discussing it as we went along. I know it certainly took us for a spin when we realized what exactly had happened to Peeta. I don’t want to reveal too much if you haven’t read the book or are going to see the film, but you’ll certainly feel like “what is going on with him!” and once you find out what it is, you hope it’s able to be fixed. Needless to say, the book was certainly one I couldn’t put down! Katniss is conveyed as such an amazingly strong female figure she’s hard to look past as a focal point. I love that her character is so strong willed in her beliefs. She’s a wonderful role model for teens and even adult women in the way she holds her morals to such a high standard .
Gear up for the film
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 brings us back to the world of Katniss and District 13 after The Hunger Games have been destroyed. With the help of the new President Coin and her faithful friends, Katniss becomes the Mockingjay for the rebellion and learns how to spread her wings in order to save Peeta. Our book club had fun seeing the trailer for the film and what’s to come. Take a look at the film trailer for yourself and get ready to fly on November 21st!

My kids are anxiously awaiting Friday, they remind me every night that it comes out in XXX days. I will have to pick the books up for them, I bet I could actually get them to read this way. Thanks for the reminder.

I generally don’t watch movies if I truly enjoy the books before them, because it’s like the movie kills the most magical scenes that exist in my own imagination. At the same time, I’d love to be in your book club. I thought all of The Huger Games books were excellent, and plenty of people love the movies, too!

I read the trilogy one after another and loved it. Ok, I’m not wild about the ending but overall, it was a great series.
