I love my kids to bits, their the reason I blog and why I get up every morning BUT they sure know how to make a mess! I’ve been a stay at home mom for 5 years now and although I love my kids, I can’t stand all the clutter and toys that tend to follow them around the house. It’s not their fault, they didn’t have a designated place for them to play and so the whole house was their area. Recently we moved into a new home and we now have a spare room that we’ve decided to designate as a play room for the kids. Although my hubby had to give up his dreams of a man cave, we both felt giving the kids their own space for play and fun would help to keep the house cleaner and us a bit more sane!
With that I set out to create the perfect play room for my kids. A space that would encourage imagination, spark laughter and all while containing the toys they love. I wanted fun furniture, a reading area, a space for my daughter’s endless dress-up clothing and of course a toy box. I did weeks worth of research and reading of reviews and after looking at tons of kid’s room products, I feel I’ve accomplished what I set out for! Take a look at the products I used to create our perfect play room and see how it turned out!
Furniture built for kids
When it comes to kid size furniture, nothing beats the products created by GuideCraft. If you have children in elementary school, pre-school or daycare, chances are you’ve seen a GuideCraft product in their classroom. Known for providing durable and lasting products for kids, GuideCraft was my go-to source for play room furniture. They even offer the option of customizing certain furniture pieces! I was able to add fun words to our book organizer and toy box.
Our play room includes:
I love the natural wood color scheme plus it goes with everything you could imagine. The chair and little couch are the perfect size for my two littles and it’s a big plus that the covers and cushions are machine washable. The dress-up center is exactly what I needed to keep my daughter’s princess dresses and shoes organized. The book shelf and toy box offer the organization I was looking for . We decided to removed the top to toy box so some larger toys could fit better. The theater offers a great place for imaginative play and the art desk/easel combo gives my kids a spot to create and let their creative juices flow!
A castle all their own
One of the main things I wanted in our play room was a spot my kids could sit and have their own little nook. They could read, use their tablet or just relax in this area. I found the most AMAZING play tent from HABA USA that I felt would create exactly what I wanted. Their Knights Hanging Tent was relatively gender neutral and served as a fun medieval play spot for a prince or a princess. Plus it came with a cushy mat that would be a great place to sit and lay.
This tent is amazing! It’s about 6 feet tall once set up and I love the look of it hanging from the ceiling. Plus the hanging feature eliminates those annoying and bendable plastic poles that most kid tents are constructed from. The mat is super soft to sit on, easy to clean and both the mat and tent have Velcro along the bottom so they stay together. There is even a zipper in the front so if my kids want more privacy, they can lock themselves away in this tower. The tent is more then large enough for 4 kids to sit in comfortably and has become our go-to reading area.
Kid friendly carpets
Since this is a new house I want to protect the new carpet we have as much as possible from the inevitable accidents that would occur over the years. For this reason I knew I needed a rug or two to cover the play room floor. I looked at all kinds of child themed rugs but none stood out like the ones I found from Carpets For Kids. I came across their Sunny Day oval rug ( part of their circle time collection) and their Alphabet Monsters rug (part of their Kid$Value collection) and feel in love with them! Carpets For Kids is known for producing the brightest colored and longest lasting rugs geared towards kids. Their Kid$Value line even features an anti-microbial, soil and stain protectant as well as their KidPly backing system so the rug stays in place.
These fun rugs add a big splash of color to the room and my kids love looking at the fun monsters, hopping from cloud to cloud and learning their shapes, numbers and letters from interacting with them. I’ve had to spot clean the rugs a few times now and it’s amazing that the color never fades. The rugs create the perfect center piece for our play room and certainly help to protect our new carpet!
The perfect playroom
After bringing all my finds together, I have completely fallen in love with the new space I’ve created for my kids! Not only do I think it embodies childhood, but it offers everything they could want for creating, pretending and learning.
With a little help from a fun wall decal and play room rules sign I found I was able to put the finishing touches on the room. I can now officially say that my kids have a place to call their own and even have been branded as the “fun house to play” with the local kids.
Do you have a special play room in your home? If so tell me all about it!
No, I don’t. Well, I mean, we have a sunroom that our son has pretty much taken over, but otherwise we don’t.
I must say that your playroom rocks!
Very nice playroom. We used to have a room dedicated for our son to play in. It was a nice way to mostly keep his toys in one area.
I love that dresser for the play clothes!
I need a playroom like this in my house, you did a great job. That rug really brightens up the room and that furniture looks great.
I love the dress up clothes rack! My kids have so much stuff it’s hard to keep it all organized. We try to purchase the right pieces of furniture for their needs and reconfigure periodically to adjust to their needs.
This is the best playroom! I love the dress up clothes rack and the chairs.
We don’t have a special room for the kids but I do love that castle! I am definitely putting it on their Christmas list to put in the little kids room. Makes for a great silent reading area!!
What a spectacular play room! I want to play in there. Those rungs are so vibrantly colored!
I just couldn’t love those kid carpets more! They are so inviting and fun!
We have a small playroom, but wow, nowhere as amazing as yours! It’s so bright and cheery, who would ever want to leave!
I’m not a kid but your playroom is a place I’d spend a few hours! What a great set-up you have. It’s bright, and cheerful and really inviting. I really love the colorful rugs!
What a fun room! When we moved into our home, I spent the first two winters turning our basement into a playroom for the kids. It was ugly and gray, but now it’s yellow and blue, and the kids love it down there.
I am so in love with this room. We have a corner in our living room that we turned into a playroom. I bought a set of Chinese dividers so this way the kids feel like they have their very own space.
Nice playroom for the kids! My daughter is too old for something like this now , so I have to update to a game/reading room for her, but the concept is the same – comfy furniture she can relax in, colorful decor, spaces that have designed functions — like a seating area for reading, etc.
I love this playroom. I would love to do something like this for my son.
