It’s not always a topic that comes to mind when we ourselves aren’t suffering from it, but child hunger is a constant problem in America. I think we tend to take for granted how lucky we are when we aren’t faced with an issue such as child hunger in our own, everyday lives. Can you believe that more than one in five children, including more than one in four Latino children, in the U.S. may not know where their next meal is coming from. That’s nearly 16 million children! Childhood hunger issues can contribute to serious, long-term consequences to the health, well-being and educational achievement of children. What’s worse, being hungry robs kids of the promise of childhood – the ability to play, grow and learn.
Thankfully, companies like H-E-B and ConAgra Foods are working to help put a dent in our country’s child hunger issue! They’ve partnered with P&G to help donate up to 7 million meals through the Child Hunger Ends Here campaign. The best part, YOU can lend a hand in making a difference and it’s as easy as purchasing meals for your own family!
Ways you can help
- If your local to Texas, look for the Child Hunger Ends Here ad in the May 11 Sunday paper for more information. There you can read how ConAgra Foods and P&G are donating an additional 100,000 meals to local Texas food banks on behalf of H-E-B!
-
Purchase participating ConAgra Foods and P&G products and look for the red pushpin on the packaging. This will have the 8-digit code needed for entering on their website, www.ChildHungerEndsHere.com . For each 8-digit code entered at www.ChildHungerEndsHere.com from March-August 2014, ConAgra Foods or P&G will donate the monetary equivalent of one meal to Feeding America!
- Get involved via your social sites! One of the easiest ways to learn how to get involved is to join the Child Hunger Ends Here Facebook community or follow the news on Twitter and Instagram at @ChildHungerEnds.
- Follow and support the Hunter Hayes’ Road Race! Multiple GRAMMY-nominee Hunter Hayes and ConAgra Foods have teamed up to end child hunger while attempting to break the Guinness World Record for Most Concerts Played in multiple cities in a 24-hour period. The 24 Hour Road Race to End Child Hunger begins Friday, May 9, and is attempting to break the record (currently eight shows in 24 hours set by the Flaming Lips who broke the previous record made by Jay-Z) by playing 10 shows in 10 cities in 24 hours!

Take a stand against child hunger
There’s nothing more important then ensuring the well being of our future generations. Being a mother myself, I know how scared I would feel if I wasn’t able to feed my children. I can only imagine the fear that other parents and care givers feel when facing that situation. We can all help H-E-B and ConAgra lend a hand in creating a better tomorrow for today’s kids by participating in the 2014 Child Hunger Ends Here program!
