Thank you to Step2 for providing me with a sample to review.
It’s officially Fall! That means new toys are hitting the shelves. If you kids are like mine, they love playing with products that keep them engaged and entertained as long as possible. Thankfully Step2 has a pretty good grasp on what kids love and they’ve brought that forward with their new Fall products! One of the new Fall items is the Handy Helper’s Workbench! Perfect for kids 3 and up, this compact tool bench lets kids bang, twist and create all day long!
We were given the chance to test out the new Handy Helper’s Workbench and my kids have been all over it since it arrived! The workbench includes everything your kids need to have some handy fun including :
- Work table with built-in bolt holes, power drill holder
- Real working vise
- Peg board and hooks to hang tools on the back wall
- Storage bin and lower storage area for pretend tools and accessories
- Includes 4 piece Durafoam™ realistic-looking “wood” building kit
- Includes a 22 piece accessory set includes an electronic drill (requires 2 “AA” batteries, not included), hammer, saw, wrench, screwdriver and much more!
Construction
Putting the workbench together was much easier then I expected, in fact I was able to do it WITH OUT my husband which was great! The workbench comes with all the pieces you need along with the decals. Total time for construction was about 15 minutes!
I did need to use a power drill for the last few screws. They connect the grey top to the bottom half of the workbench. Other then that it was really easy to put together! The Drill does require 2 AA batteries that are not included so make sure you have those as well.
Time to play!
When my kids woke up to find the Handy Helper’s Workbench in the living room they were ecstatic!! Both my boy and girl have had a blast playing and creating with the tools. I was surprised at how well my daughter picked up using the drill with the screws and getting them to screw into the workbench. My son LOVES the drill and has been using it on everything he sees.
The workbench is the perfect size for young kids and is sturdy enough to stay in place when being banged and drilled on. The pretend vice does a great job of holding the foam wood pieces and I like that all the tools are the right size for little hands. If I could change one thing, it would be the foam wood pieces. Both my kids have a hard time getting the screws to go in and especially getting them out of the pre-punched holes. Also, I feel that the foam may not last very long. Another thing I would change would be the accessory tray that comes with the workbench. I’d much rather a drawer since I would feel it would be less likely to get lost.
See the Handy Helper’s Workbench in action!
When it comes to kids, Step2 knows what they want. The new Handy Helper’s Workbench has been a big hit in our house, so much so, I’ve been waking up lately to my son trying to drill into my forehead! 🙂 We have yet to be disappointed by a Step2 product. As a mom, I love that they are constantly striving for quality and durable products and the Handy Helper’s Workbench is just another example of that hard work! If you’re looking to grab something fun for your kids this holiday season, I suggest taking a look at the Handy Helper’s Workbench!

That is such a cute toy. Do you think a six year old with autism would enjoy playing with it?

Karen,
Yes! I definitely do! Especially since the tools are very interactive and nothing is too frustrating to operate. The sensory aspect of the toy is wonderful, lots to feel, touch and learn about! I think it would be wonderful for just that purpose 🙂
