I recently took a blogging trip to Aurora, Ohio where I was given the chance to stay at the beautiful Inn Walden. The resort is nestled in Ohio’s western reserve and offers a luxury resort experience complete with an in house spa, 3 separate restaurants, equestrian center, an award winning golf course, swimming pool, fitness center and tennis courts.

The Inn Walden offers 4 different suites styles, each offering something different. The Loft, Pyramid, Equestrian and Walden. The Inn also offers an array of amenities such as free wi-fi, honor bar, flat-screen LCD/ HDTV with DVD player, individual Keurig coffee machine with complimentary coffee and tea, nightly turn-down service, twice daily maid service, laundry and shoe shine services, in-room spa services, babysitting services, suites for the physically challenged, complementary evening hors d’oeuvres, complimentary breakfast and more!
When I arrived at the Inn, I was greeted at the front desk and checked in easily. Although it was late in the evening, the staff was pleasant and a bell hop willingly took my bags and showed me to my room. They even offered to re-heat my dinner for me. (which I ended up having to get to go) A few minutes later my suite doorbell rang and a woman was at my door with what looked like room service. They had re-heated my food, plated it for me, along with bringing me utensils, desserts and a glass of ice water. Once settling in, I was over whelmed with how large my suite was!
Being a mom and wife, I’m not used to traveling by alone, let alone having such a large room to myself. I was put up in an Equestrian suite, which offered a studio type room with beautiful large windows and a fireplace. The king sized bed was enormous and surrounded by loads of super soft pillows and sheets. Across from my bed, was a sitting area with a table and a chaise lounge. The large, gas fireplace in front of my bed was beautiful and certainly gave the room a homey feel.
The bathroom are was also large, offering a giant vanity, walk in shower and separate powder room. Right outside of the bathroom area was an honesty bar full of all kinds of goodies, but watch out for the price list. They charge around $7 for a chocolate chip cookie and milk.
Other than having amazing suites, Inn Walden also offers a full, in house spa. I was scheduled to enjoy an hour massage after having a 1 hour yoga class. The Yoga was wonderful! I had never tried it before and the instructor was great about taking everything slow and teaching us positions that newbies could do. Once done with the yoga, I was greeted by a spa specialist who showed me to my spa suite. Spa Suite?!! I had no idea what I was in store for. I was shown up a stairway to a hall full of rooms. She opened a door and showed me into a room with a large whirlpool tub, shower/sauna, massage table and a sitting area by a window. I was asked if I would like a glass of champagne and was told that I had an hour to pamper myself with the room amenities before my massage therapist would call up and let me know they were on their way.
SOOO of course I took total advantage of the room and tested out EVERYTHING! It was all wonderful, the tub was relaxing, the Kohler shower/sauna was to die for and my massage was the best I have ever had! If you are planning on visiting the Spa Walden, I highly recommend getting one of their massages.
While staying at the Walden I also dined at the 3 restaurants they offered, The Club, The Barn and The Blue Ribbon Cafe. Unfortunately the restaurants were not up to par with the rest of the resort in my opinion. While dining at both The Barn and The Club, people in my business party had major issues with getting their steaks cooked to order. In fact every piece of meat that was ordered arrived highly undercooked. The worst was at The Barn, where one of our party had sent her steak back to be cooked longer. After a few minutes she received the dish back with the sauce on the steak burnt, as if they had placed the entire plate into an oven. I must say though, that the salmon I had at The Barn was wonderful and cooked perfectly.
Breakfast at The Blue Ribbon Cafe was pleasant, but upon heading there, I was not informed that a wedding had been set up in the cafe, moving where hotel guests would be having breakfast to a different dining area. This left me lost and looking for the cafe for about 15 min. The food was decent, however I ordered the french toast which was much too sweet for me. I’m normally not one to turn down french toast, but this one seemed to be caked in caramelized sugar and bananas.
After breakfast I returned to my suite to pack up and check out. Check out was a breeze and again the staff was more then willing to help with my bags. After staying 3 nights at the Inn Walden I must say it was wonderful! I loved my spacious suite and my spa service and experience was above and beyond any other spa I’ve visited. If you are planning a trip to Ohio or just looking for a romantic getaway location, I highly recommend checking in at Inn Walden, Aurora, Ohio.
