Fall is almost here and that means new toys are hitting the shelves for the holiday season. One of the newbies from Step2 is the Thomas The Tank Engine Up & Down Roller Coaster! Thomas The Tank Engine really comes to life with this fun new roller coaster. Perfect for children ages 1-4, the coaster features all the durability Step2 is known for while giving kiddos the chance to chug along on Thomas’ windy railway!
We were given a chance to test out the new Thomas The Tank Engine Up & Down Roller Coaster as part of Step2′s blogger program. Ever since putting it together I haven’t been able to get my kids off of it! The coaster has by far become their favorite toy and it’s caught a lot of attention from the neighborhood kids as well whenever they come over to play.

Like all of Step2’s products, this item does ship in a box that reveals it’s contents. (there is a big photo of the coaster on the box) So if you are sending this as a gift, make sure to give the parents a heads up so as to avoid spoiling the surprise. 🙂
The Thomas The Tank Engine Up & Down Roller Coaster comes with everything you need to create your own train ride. The box includes:
- Consists of over nine feet of track
- Two non-slip steps (on both sides) lock securely into the four piece track of this roller coaster toy and make it easy for children to access the Thomas the Tank Engine coaster car
- Recessed retainer wells hold the kid’s coaster car until child is ready to roll down the track
- Fully assembled coaster car with high back, handrail and foot rests make for a comfortable ride
- Detailed Thomas the Train decals

Putting the coaster together was a breeze! I was honestly really surprised at how easy it was, the most time consuming part was putting the decals onto the Thomas car and hammering the wheels on. Other then that, the track pretty much snapped together and that was it! Total construction time was about 15 min. Definitely the easiest Step2 toy I’ve ever assembled.
Luckily we put it together while the kiddos were sleeping so they had one heck of a surprise when they woke up. It was so cute to see their faces when they came down the stairs to find their favorite blue tank engine ready to steam away in their living room! The Thomas The Tank Engine Up & Down Roller Coaster is the perfect size for my 2.5 and 4 year old. The Thomas car rolls easily down the track and the coaster has held up to loads of play. My kids love chugging along with Thomas down the track and pushing him back up again for the next person to take a turn!
The track is a bit long so if you’re planning on keeping this toy indoors, be sure you have a relatively large place to put it. You’ll need space for the track and extra room in front for the Thomas car to travel once it hits the bottom of the track. We put our’s in the living room with it being super hot here in Texas the past few months. It’s worked great since we have it set up for the kids to roll into the foot of our Lay-Z-Boy recliner which acts as a soft bumper. When we want to move it, the track simply pops apart.

My daughter (and eventually son) would love this! Gosh I wish I had had one of these when I was a kid! Hm maybe a Christmas gift, she would flip if she saw this set up on Christmas morning.
Oh my gosh, how cool! When I first saw the picture I didn’t realize the scale and thought it was a little toy train set, and I was all, “Aww how cute, I remember playing with Thomas the Tank engine playsets”. Then I scrolled down and saw that it’s big enough for the kids to actually RIDE it! When I was their age, I would have thought that was the coolest thing in all existence. Neat!!!
