Reading has always been a love of mine. Ever since I can remember being able to read on my own I’ve always been a book worm and to this day I can’t deny a good book. Now that I’m a mom, I love being able to instill a strong love of books with my kiddos, especially my oldest since she is the only real reader so far. My daughter and I had the chance to check out the new book, Jacky HA-HA by James Patterson and have totally fallen in love with it! The story follows a little girl with 6 sisters named Jacky who, although she leads a stressful home life with a mother away in the military a father who works a lot, finds fun ways to overcome her stutter and make others laugh.
Being a military family ourselves, my daughter has certainly been able to relate to Jacky in the sense that one of her parents isn’t always able to be around. We’ve enjoyed reading the book together and I love that it’s given us a chance to bond as well as allowing my daughter to strengthen her reading skills. The book is set up like a big chapter book, however it’s large lettering and fun, hand-drawn pictures make it easy to follow along for unseasoned readers. I really like that it’s an easy and fun read but makes my daughter feel like she’s reading a “grown up” book.
Not only has the book been fun for us at home, but we are able to join others who are also reading through the first ever online book club, created just for the book! Using #HaHaBookClub, we can share our own experiences with Jacky HA-HA while taking in other’s as well which is a really neat experience. Book clubs when I was a kid were never this interactive! My daughter loves reading the book so much, I’ve even caught her reading on her own as a preferred activity! I feel like this is a major milestone!
If you’re looking for a great and engaging book for girls and to take in with your daughter, I highly suggest picking up a copy of Jacky HA-HA and joining in on the online fun at #HaHaBookClub!
