When I was a kid I always wanted to know what it was like to ring up everything at the grocery store. I love that Learning Resources has made it possible to bring the fun of the Super Market home with their Pretend & Play® Supermarket Checkout ! This fun, educational toy allows children to move their purchases up the working conveyor belt, scan them, and charge their customer by sliding the credit card or paying with the included coins.
When the Pretend & Play® Supermarket Checkout arrived my daughter couldn’t wait to get it out of the box! The set requires two C
batteries ( not included) and was easy to assemble. I was left looking for an instruction sheet until I realized they were on the side of the box. Once the batteries are installed the two check out pieces snap together and your ready for play. The set includes a working produce scale, swivel price display, nine food items, a plastic credit card, 3 plastic coins and a shopping basket. Some of the play food included are card board box items that need to be assembled. I added a bit of double sided tape to the tabs to help them stay closed.
Once turned on, the Pretend & Play® Supermarket Checkout really does bring the fun of the grocery store into your home. My daughter loved placing the food on the conveyor belt and pushing the button to have it move towards the check out. They can even scan each food item and hear a “BEEP” when the food is run over the scanner. The food checker can then place the purchases into the basket and run the credit card to open cash register.

I really love the idea of this toy. It was able to keep my 1.5 and 3 year old occupied for quite some time. The working conveyor belt is the best part. My daughter really liked being able to push the button and have the food move towards the scanner. There is no volume button, but the noise generated by the toy isn’t too bad. All in all I give the Pretend & Play® Supermarket Checkout a Big Fairy A +!
