Being a mom to two little ones, I know the trials and tribulations of finding the perfect sippy cup. I can’t count the amount of different brands we’ve gone through trying to find one that best fits our needs. Thankfully I found oKid Basix! Kid Basix have taken the sippy cup to a whole new level! Using non-leaching stainless steel and BPA free plastics, they’ve created the what has been our saving grace when it comes to sippy cups.
Kid Basix offers four different kinds of cups. The Safe Starter, The Safe Sippy, The Safe Sippy 2, and the Safe Sporter, which come in either 12 or 16 ounce options. We were given the chance to test out The Safe Sippy 2 and The Safe Sporter in the 16 oz size. The first thing I noticed was how streamline the cups both appear. The Safe Sippy 2 especially has sort of fun, futuristic look to it!
The Safe Sippy 2 offers loads of great features that lead me to thinking it’s the best sippy yet.
1 – The spout itself is shaped like a straw, making it easy for kids with developing mouths to use it.
2 – The handles are removable and curved, making it easy to hold onto.
3 – The plastic sleeve is made of thermo plastic rubber, helping to insulate cold liquids
4 – The body of the cup is made from food-grade, light weight and durable stainless steel. The steel also is non-leaching, meaning that dangerous chemicals can’t be leached into your child’s drinks.
5 – The stainless steel is also antimicrobial and dishwasher safe.
6 – The sippy valve is cross-cut which allows the liquid to flow more evenly.
7 – The Safe Sippy 2 comes with attachments that allow you to use the cup as either a sippy or a straw cup. Plus is comes with a travel plug that lets you plug up the cup when it’s not being used and so you won’t worry about spills. Each adapter simply pops right into the top of the sippy and is both easy to change and wash.
My 2 year old seemed to really like using the cup! The handles were easy for him to grip and I loved that I could remove them if I felt like it. The extra options the cup offers are great and don’t leave me having to purchase another cup once he takes to straws better. I do recommend using a bottle basket or mesh holder when washing the attachments in the dishwasher so they don’t get lost.
The Safe Sporter is a kid-friendly version of a sport bottle. It also has lots of features that I love that make it perfect for my 3 year old!
1 – The mud cap helps keep the spout clean with it’s no in use. It also clicks into place and isn’t hard to pull up on, which is an issue I tend to see in most sport style bottles.
2 – The pull spout is also easy to pull up and down, making it easy for little hands to use.
3 – The top of the actual cup is wide enough to fit ice cubes in with out having to shrink them! This is awesome considering I’ve always had to shrink ice cubes before being able to shove them into the top of a sport bottle.
4 – Just like the Safe Sippy 2, The body of the cup is made from food-grade, light weight, antimicrobial, dishwasher safe and durable stainless steel. The steel also is non-leaching, meaning that dangerous chemicals can’t be leached into your child’s drinks.
5 – The cup is single walled, so when it’s containing a liquid with ice cubes in it, the cup can double as a cold pack in your kiddo’s lunch box!
6 – The bottom of the Safe Sporter is covered in the same thermo plastic rubber as the bottom half of the body. This helps it to stay put when sitting on a surface and keeps the bottle from being dented.
My 3 year old absolutely loves her Safe Sporter and It’s been her go to cup since we got it! The mud cap has certainly done it’s job in keeping the spout safe from dirt.
When it comes to both cups, I love that even though both the Safe Sippy 2 and the Safe Sporter are not double walled, they still keep drinks super cold! The thermo plastic rubber coverings help to keep my kid’s hands from getting cold while holding them. Most of all, they are easy to clean and keep my my kids happy! If you are looking for children’s cups that withstand any kind of abuse and grow with your child, I highly recommend Kid Basix, A BIG Fairy A+!
