Making sure my kids are active and healthy is one of my main goals as a parent. Being a soccer and baseball mom means that I’m constantly battling a schedule filled with practices, games, and doubleheaders along with my normal daily to-do lists. Making sure that I’m always prepared for our sporting events makes it easier to get where we need to and enjoy the game.
When I was a child, I remember my mom rushing us all around to get to our games and piling all of our equipment into the car. I always loved the rush of excitement I’d get before playing in a game and now that my own kids are playing sports, that same rush of excitement keeps coming back. Make sure you can enjoy the fun of the game and avoid the pre-game stresses with this list of 7 take-along essentials for every sports family!
1 ) Drinks
Making sure kids stay hydrated on and off the field is a definite must for all parents. Water and sports drinks are a great way to make sure this happens. We recently discovered BODYARMOR, a premium sports drink that provides superior hydration for all athletes at our local Publix.
BODYARMOR offers a healthier alternative to sports drinks because it’s packed with electrolytes, coconut water, vitamins and is low in sodium and high in potassium. I also love that they offer a new, BODYARMOR LYTE option. BODYARMOR LYTE offers all the same nutrients as BODYARMOR. It is naturally sweetened and has only 20 calories per serving.
Since BODYARMOR drinks are designed by athletes, for athletes it contains natural flavors and sweeteners and no colors from artificial sources. Whenever we’re planning for practice or weekend games, we pick up our BODYARMOR drinks at our local Circle K and Food Lion stores.
Simply pack up a small cooler with your favorite flavors and you’re ready to face the heat and keep your little athletes hydrated!

2 ) Snacks
When I was a kid, being the snack family was always an honor since you were the ones bringing the goodies for the end of the game! Here are a few yummy and easy to transport snack ideas for sporting events:
- Fresh fruit
- Granola bars
- Fresh Veggies
- Popcorn
- Pretzels
- Trail mix
3 ) Sunscreen
There’s nothing worse than feeling tired from running around and getting a sunburn. Make sure your mini sports stars stay burn free by applying sunscreen before games. Keeping a sunscreen that’s 50SPF in the car will ensure that you never leave home without it.
4 ) Spare shoes
Cleats are great for the field but not so much for the grocery store or a restaurant. Keep a spare pair of shoes in the car or in your athlete’s bag. This will make going places after each game much more comfortable and keep cleats in performance shape.
5 ) Chairs/blanket
No parent wants to get to their child’s game only to realize they have no place to sit. Make sure to keep a chair/s or a weather resistant blanket in your car. This will ensure you’ll always have a great place to spectate and you’ll never have to endure a soggy-grass bum again!
6 ) First-aid kit
Let’s face it, there’s no sport that’s injury-free. If your kids are anything like mine, they get bumps and bruises just from walking. Make sure you have a way to bandage any boo-boos by keeping a first-aid kit handy at all times. There are pre-made first-aid kits available at stores or you can easily create your own.
7 ) Bag to keep everything in
With all the things we sports parents have to remember to bring with us, placing everything in a bag will make sure that what you’re looking for is all in one transportable spot. Duffle bags and backpacks are a great choice for keeping all your sports season essentials together.
Do you have any different essentials for sports families?

We are a sports family as well, this may be a good alternative to other sugar-filled drinks for our family. Thanks!
