Waterparks are always a fun family vacation destination, but waterparks with toddlers can sometimes be tricky. Thankfully Schlitterbahn Waterpark and Resort in South Padre Island, Texas offers many great toddler-friendly areas and entertainment options. Don’t worry, they still have everything from fast, winding water slides, to underwater adventures and even house the world’s first Transportainment system where interconnected rivers act as queue lines for rides! The resort is located on the beautiful, white sand beaches of the Gulf Of Mexico giving guests gorgeous views of the ocean while offering wonderful amenities for families outside of the waterpark. Take a look at my top 3 tips for enjoying Schlitterbahn in South Padre Island, Texas with toddlers and make sure to get the most out of your waterpark adventure!
1) Plan out your water fun
If you’re staying at the resort and have booked the unlimited stay and play package, you’ll receive a free ticket to the park the day you check in and if you’re staying two nights, you’ll get three days of waterpark tickets! Plan on getting to the park EARLY! I’d say around 9am so you can be sure to claim a good table or spot near the kid’s area. Don’t forget swim diapers for those who aren’t potty trained! No one wants an oopsy when it comes to poopy! If your little ones aren’t master swimmers yet, the park also offers life jackets through out the park. Also, be sure to plan out naps and take into account how hot the temperature will be that day, you don’t want any little one’s getting heat exhaustion . The park offers lots of great shady areas for nap time but if you do happen to go back to your room, you can go in and out of the park all day long with your wristband.
EXTRA TIP: Bring a stroller!! The park is huge and little legs don’t tend to last long, especially after a full day of play. Having a stroller can make sure your arms don’t go numb carrying a tired toddler around all day. Even if your kids aren’t toddlers, I always recommend bringing a stroller for anyone under 10. It just makes things a LOT easier.
2) Know where to go
Schlitterbahn offers some wonderful toddler areas for children not quite ready for big water fun yet. The top toddler areas include: #1 Squid Row. This zero-entry area offers fun, padded water elements for youngsters to play on. #2 Sand Castle Cove. You can’t miss this massive sand castle in the middle of the park! With 5 stories of water fun, Sand Castle Cove is a great area for kids to explore with their parents. Great for photo ops and splashing fun, Sand Castle Cove offers loads of hands-on water play fun, giant dumping sand pails, and slippery slides for little ones. #3 Pirate’s Cove. If your kiddos are getting too hot or the weather just isn’t agreeable, this indoor play area is perfect for splashing! Pirate’s Cover offers shallow water fun and a giant pirate ship to play on!
3) Pack snacks
Although Schlitterbahn offers some great food areas through out the park and resort, families are allowed to bring their own food into the park as well! This is a great money saving option and the best way to make sure your kids will eat since you can bring what they like. Pack lots of water and easy snacks, such as pre-made sandwiches, finger snacks and foods that won’t fall apart too easily with wet hands. Do know that no alcoholic beverages or glass containers are allowed inside the park. If you have a cooler on wheels bring it, it’s much easier to drag something heavy then to carry it all over the massive park! I’d also recommend bringing wipes and hand sanitizer for easy hand washing.
Whether your visiting with toddlers, big kids or no kids, Schlitterbahn South Padre Island is nothing short of a waterpark paradise!

Great tips! Would love to visit Texas again!! It’s been about 10 years since I’ve been down south. Snacks are a necessity for a toddler any day, but more so when traveling!

Thanks for the tips! I would never have thought of a stroller, but that is definitely a must with how big the park is! I also love the idea of planning what you want to do. That helps and make sure we do what we want first.
